People on the move — travelling 5.4 miles from Polo Park to East Kildonan in subway trains wth at least 11 station stops enroute.
It's all part of Metro's transportation study and it's Metro Transit Director D. I. MacDonald's dream.
There would be at least 15 trains, each made up of three cars. Commuters would park their cars during the day on the unused parking lot near the Winnipeg Arena as the starting point.
The route would be along Portage Ave. to Main St.
Some station stops might be at Memorial Blvd. for easy connection to the University of Winnipeg, auditorium, and shopping facilities. Another would be on Hargrave St. as the near centre point between Main St. and Memorial Blvd.
At Portage Ave. and Main St., commuters could use a station stop connecting through the Lombard Pl. complex concourse.
There would be a stop at city hall and the Centennial Arts Centre, one near the CPR subway.
The rapid transit system would cross the Red River near Redwood Ave. into East Kildonan, connecting with Henderson Hwy. near Hespeler Ave.
It's still only a dream.
It will take monney, more planning and most important of all, approval from elected representatives in various levels of government.
