Subway Report Highlights
- Start should be made within five years on first stage — Portage-North Main line — for 1969 completion. Length: 4.5 miles.
- Estimated cost to public would be $11.5 million a mile, a total of $265 million for the entire 23.15 miles.
- Fares would be the same as those for surface travel.
- Operating costs would be less than half those for bus travel.
- Construction recommended in nine stages, all to be finished by 1981.
- Travel time between Queen St., St. James, and Memorial Blvd., would be nine minutes — half the time by surface vehicles at present.
- Underground cars would be fed by bus lines from outlying areas, without transfer tickets.
