1890s

January 28, 1891 — First successful test of electric streetcar technology in operation along River Ave.
April 20, 1892 — Winnipeg Electric Street Railway Company incorporated.
mid-July 1892 — WESR's first streetcars, #2 and #6, are delivered from Ottawa.
July 27, 1892 — At 10 AM the first electric streetcars, with 15 minute headways, in service between the CPR station and Exhibition grounds. The regular fare at the time was 5 cents.
September 5, 1892 — At 2.40 p.m., streetcar service extended via Main St. (southbound) to Broadway. Free rides were provided on this day.
November 12, 1892 — Track extended along Portage Ave. to Hargrave St., and on the Belt Line (Notre Dame Ave., Sherbrook St.)
November 15, 1892 — Track extended along Main St. to north City Limits.
1893 — Track extended along Broadway from Main St. to Osborne St., providing service to the Manitoba Legislature, Land Titles Building, Law Courts, and the Fort Osborne Barracks. Trackage extended from Kennedy/Edmonton St. to Maryland St., along William Ave. from Main St. to Sherbrook St., along Osborne St. from Broadway to the Osborne Bridge.
1895 — Track extended along Higgins Ave. from Main St. to Curtis St.
1896 — Track extended from Higgins/Curtis through to the Louise Bridge.
1897 — Track extended southbound from Sherbrook St. to Cornish Ave. to serve the Misericordia Hosp.
January 4, 1898 — The Winnipeg Electric Street Railway Co. purchased the Manitoba Electric & Gas Light Co. for $400,000.
1898 — Single track extended over the Main St. Bridge., double tracked on south side of Main St. Bridge.
1899 — William Ave. streetcar extended from Sherbrook St. @ William Ave. to Sherbrook St. @ Portage Ave. Fort Rouge and Broadway routes combined into the "Loop Route".
