LETTER: Fix bus, before going rapid

I am writing to complain about lousy service.

I am a regular bus rider.

I am trying to do my part in cutting down exhaust and conserving energy.

Winnipeg Transit has taken this one step further and started cancelling bus runs. It works out that this morning it was the bus I ride.

I go and get on a bus 35 every morning at 6:47 a.m.

The other day I waited and waited with no bus showing up. I am lucky in that I can cross the street and catch a route 34.

This is what I did. I also phoned the Transit call centre to find out where the 35 bus was.

I was told the 35 was cancelled. Why? I called the Transit complaint line and left a message about my problem.

They called me back and said it was because they didn't have enough drivers.

First, this is lousy service. Second, if I was an employer and didn't have enough employees I sure wouldn't be in business long. Third, there are a lot of people further down from my stop that don't have the option of catching a different bus to get to work and make it to work on time. Fourth, usually on Tuesdays through Thursdays the bus is full.

There have been days when people are standing on the bus when it gets to the corner of McPhillips and Maple Glen.

Can someone please explain to me, if we get this sort of lousy service, how will a rapid transit service help?

They cannot supply service to the people they have now! I guess this is another city service that provides lousy service that we have to accept without complaints.
