LETTER: Brodbeck is 'right on'

Let me suggest Tom Brodbeck is right on when he implies the whole objective of rapid transit is to get more people out of their cars and on to transit.

The reality is BRT (bus rapid transit) technology has proven costly, inflexible and anything but rapid.

However all major cities except Winnipeg have "real" rapid transit. That is LRT ( light rail traffic).

Study after study has shown BRT draws fewer transit riders.

More importantly, there are fewer new transit riders than LRT.

Because of higher ridership, the cost per passenger mile (a measure of cost effectiveness) is actually lower for LRT than for BRT.
