LETTER: Improve city's transport

A multimillion dollar water park for Winnipeg would have to be exceptional to make a significant difference in the number of tourists visiting the city. The biggest problem that Winnipeg needs to address is one of transport -- not only transport within the city but also transport to get to the city. There is just one airline that flies directly to Winnipeg from outside North America, and then only for a few months of the year.

I moved here from the United Kingdom over a year ago and I love this city and its people. I recently went back to England on a visit and the return trip from Heathrow via Montreal to Winnipeg took more than 15 hours. This year we are looking forward to visits from friends and family from the U.K. but they are finding the thought of such a journey pretty daunting. Of course when they come here we will want to show off our adopted city with all its sights and attractions -- a better transit system would help much more than a water park.
