LETTER: City needs vision

Letters such as Nick Ternette's Light rail better than buses, May 30, point out all sorts of truths about the transit deadlock here in Winnipeg. Unfortunately it is indisputable, to anyone with a perspective beyond the perimeter highway that LRT is realistic and BRT is completely unviable. That the Rapid Transit Task Force was manipulated to conclude that the interests of the bus lobby were viable is also clear to anyone who has participated in real public consultation.

However, Ternette and others continue to miss the real crux of the matter.... Winnipeg has no courageous leaders with a vision of our future (such as former mayor Stephen Juba) and, that Winnipeg continues to be plagued by politicians blind to the progress being made in every major city in North America, Europe and Asia.

The task force was a "waste of time"? No, the task force was just the most recent abomination inflicted on the long suffering Winnipeg public. For over 40 years Winnipeg's so-called leaders have been wasting time imagining Winnipeg as a small prairie village with no future. It is time Winnipeggers elected city councillors and a mayor who believe in the future of our wonderful community.
