Who would meet the tremendous costs of a subway in Greater Winnipeg?
Norman D. Wilson, the man who wrote Winnipeg's subway report, declares that municipalities have readily borne the cost of building huge expressway systems out of the public purse. And they should be equally prepared to pay for a system that does five times the work in transportation for the same amount of money.
Similarly, transit officials suggested that since the provincial government has shared the cost of bridge and freeway development in Greater Winnipeg, it should be prepared to offer similar assistance for a subway.
One transit man saw the subway as an ideal method of providing winter work for years to come. Under it, indeed, the federal government might also provide help.
